DO IT YOURSELF - Search Using Subject Search Engines

Last month we talked about the benefits of using multiple
search engines for the best Internet search results.  Another
way to enhance search results is to use subject specific
search engines.

Scirus http://www.scirus.com offers an excellent example of
this kind of search tool.  Scirus is for scientific informa
tion only.  They describe themselves as "the most 
comprehensive science-specific search engine on the Internet."
Scirus searches over 250 million science-specific Web pages.
This site is designed with the scientist and the researcher
in mind.

Science.gov http://www.science.gov permits a unified search
of information provided by 16 U.S. government science organi
zations.

Medhunt from Health on the Net http://www.hon.ch/MedHunt/ 
offers medical information.

News Now http://www.newsnow.co.uk/ makes almost 25,000 
news sources searchable from its home page.

There are also a wide variety of directories available to 
point you toward the information you seek.  These directories
provide lists of web site by subject.  To see a listing of
such directories arranged by subject, try SearchEngineGuide
