INFORMATION UPDATE October, 2004 Number 55 Welcome to INFORMATION UPDATE, the free monthly newsletter for information seekers. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ IN THIS ISSUE ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ => Do It Yourself - Email Alerts from the FDA => Did You Know? - Keeping Current is a Process => Notes, News and Announcements => Subscribe/Unsubscribe Information ************************************************************ DO IT YOURSELF - Email Alerts from the FDA ************************************************************ Since you subscribe to this newsletter, delivered via email, to keep you informed, I'm guessing you consider this a use- ful way to receive information. In that case, you will want to know about the electronic newsletters available from the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA offers more than 20 newsletters, available free via e-mail. To view the list of options, go to the FDA home page at http://www.fda.gov and scroll down to the bottom left portion of the page. There you will find a link to the newsletter list. There are daily news updates and weekly digests of FDA activities. MedWatch offers immediate notice on safety issues. The Center for Drug Evaluation and Research offers daily or weekly notice of changes to the CDER web site. The Center for Devices and Radiological Health offers several newsletters covering news and alerts. There are also consumer focused news and patient safety news mailing lists. These FDA lists are one way for consumers, patients, and industry participants to keep current on developments at the FDA. ************************************************************ DID YOU KNOW? - Keeping Current is a Process ************************************************************ Subscribing to alerting services, such as those described in the previous section, is one component of a comprehensive plan for keeping abreast of changes in your area of interest. In every industry, decision makers need a steady flow of reliable, up-to-date information. Unfortunately, there is rarely a comprehensive, single source for this kind of infor- mation. The current awareness process, therefore, requires defining the kind of information needed and identifying the proper sources for gathering, analyzing, and delivering this information. Keeping current involves monitoring the news, trade and industry journals, relevant web sites, and appropriate regu- latory agencies. It also involves compiling the findings from this monitoring process, plus analyzing it and deliver- ing it to interested parties. For a look at your options for keeping current, contact Shamel Information Services at 858-673-4763. ************************************************************* Notes, News, and Announcements ************************************************************* Information Seekers may now subscribe to Information Update using the web form at http://shamelinfo.com.
