Information professionals, including librarians, information consultants, and research specialists are very choosy when it comes to their sources. Reliability and accuracy are paramount. In a recent, informal survey, independent information pro- fessionals shared their favorite web free sites. Mailto:infoupdate@shamelinfo.com ------------------------------------------------------------ DID YOU KNOW -- Not Free on the Web ------------------------------------------------------------ Recent research sponsored by factiva: Dow Jones & Reuters shows that "more than two-thirds of publications used most often by knowledge workers either do not have Web sites or do not make their material available on the Web for free." This statistic reminds us that many workers spend time searching the web for information that simply is not there. And the time spent is costly. "Knowledge workers spend about four hours per week looking for and gathering information. They spend an additional four hours per week reviewing and applying external information." The average cost for this work is $240 per person per week (in a company with 700 employees, that's $16,800 per week!), and they may not even locate the information they seek. When your organization needs information, remember to ask a professional such as Shamel Information Services. Our pro- fessional searchers have the skills and sources needed to provide reliable, verified information for cost effective business decisions.
