PubMed is the web based version of the National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE database of medical literature. To visit the PubMed home page, go to http://www.pubmed.gov. MEDLINE contains bibliographic citations and author abstracts from more than 4,300 biomedical journals published in the United States and 70 other countries. The file contains over 11 million citations dating back to the mid-1960's. PubMed allows searchers to combine terms using the Boolean operators "and" "or" "not" For a quick review of Boolean logic, go to - http://www.sc.edu/beaufort/library/lesson8.html In PubMed, whenever you use Boolean logic, capitalize the Boolean operator. For instance - dna[ti] AND crick[au] yields 9 hits dna[ti] and crick[au] yields 0 hits Note: [ti] tells PubMed to look for this term in the Title field [au] tells PubMed to look for this term in the Author field Information Update can offer these tips monthly if you want that. Please e-mail us and let us know if this would meet your needs and interests. ------------------------------------------------------------ DID YOU KNOW -- Too Much Information (TMI) ------------------------------------------------------------ TMI, data smog, information overload, and information glut. These terms have become commonplace as business managers and decision-makers endeavor to sort through the volumes, files, and terabytes of information that floods our workplaces. But business managers and decision-makers shouldn't have to do this kind of searching and compiling. Time is money, and their time might be better spent planning, guiding and managing the business. Leave information management to the information professional. Today's librarians and independent information professionals are skilled in gathering, evaluating, filtering, analyzing and disseminating the information that business managers need. For help in meeting your information needs, contact your corporate librarian.
